Feature Friday No. 4 – 3D Selfie

Welcome back to this week’s Feature Friday! We are so glad you joined us, because this week we are talking about 3D scanning, and modeling! Here at Dimension Alley, we offer a unique service that makes it possible to you to have a “3D Selfie” of yourself or someone else!

We have been offering this service for as long as we have been open, so it’s not by any means a new deal. But do not let that take away from how remarkable, and distinctive it is.

Our turnaround time on projects like this, are generally about a week. (depending on how busy we are at that time.) The process is quite easy on your part. You would normally book a time to come in and get scanned (which takes only a couple minutes). We then take the results and make small changes and adjustments, (which takes 1 to 2 hours). After finishing, we would ask you to proof the piece before we print. An average print time for a 7 to 8cm bust print is 3 to 4 hours. We have variety of colors to choose from in our PLA material. We also offer a multicolored option, but that is a little bit more difficult process, and we normally outsource the print.

The technology we have to make this scan possible is called a Sense 3D Scanner from the company, 3D Systems. It comes with its own software that we can scan, and make basic adjustments with. But for most of our editing, we use a program called Meshmixer, or Netfab.

As well as single bust portraits, we also offer full body scans, and family portraits. There is usually no limit on the size of the family, but as the group size grows, we will scan each person separately and then place them all together.
